The journey

450 kmMakkah to Madinah
4–5 hrsTypical driving time
Highway 15Main direct route
2 stopsRest and prayer breaks

The direct road runs north from Makkah on Highway 15 through Rabigh and on into Madinah. Your driver stops for prayer and refreshments along the way at no extra charge. If you have a Rawdah appointment booked through Nusuk, tell us the time and we will set the departure so you arrive with margin rather than cutting it fine.

Direct or via Badr

Badr is the only major Islamic historical site directly on this route, and adding it here costs far less than booking it as a separate day trip from Madinah later.

Direct route

Straight through on Highway 15 with prayer and rest stops. The right choice if you have a hotel check-in time or a Rawdah appointment to keep.

From SAR 380 Book direct route

Via Badr

Adds roughly 90 minutes for a stop at the Badr battlefield, the martyrs’ cemetery and the surrounding valley. Worth it if this is your first visit.

From SAR 500 Book via Badr

In a Staria the Badr detour costs only SAR 50 more than the direct route, which is the cheapest way to see Badr on the whole rate card.

Common questions

How much is a taxi from Makkah to Madinah?
A private car from Makkah to Madinah starts at SAR 380 one way for a Camry carrying up to four passengers. A seven seat Hyundai Staria is SAR 450, an eleven seat HiAce is SAR 550, a GMC is SAR 800, a fifteen seat Coaster is SAR 900 and a bus is SAR 1200. Fares are per vehicle, not per person, and include fuel and tolls.
How long does the journey take?
Between four and five hours for the direct route, covering about 450 km on Highway 15. Add roughly 90 minutes if you stop at Badr. Traffic leaving Makkah during Hajj and in the last ten days of Ramadan can add time, so allow a margin if you have a Rawdah appointment.
Can we stop at Badr on the way?
Yes. The Badr option is SAR 500 for a Camry and SAR 500 for a Staria, and includes time at the battlefield site and the martyrs’ cemetery. In a Staria that is only SAR 50 more than the direct route, which makes it the cheapest way to see Badr. Tell us when you book so the driver can plan the timing.
Is a taxi cheaper than the Haramain train?
For one or two people the train is usually cheaper. From three passengers upward a private car is normally better value, because the fare is per vehicle rather than per ticket, and there is no additional taxi needed at either end.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
No. You confirm the fare with us in advance and pay the driver in cash when the journey is complete.
Can you collect us from any hotel in Makkah?
Yes, we collect from any hotel in Makkah, including those inside the Haram restricted zone. During prayer times and peak Hajj periods some roads close, so the driver may meet you at the nearest accessible pickup point and will tell you where in advance.
Do your drivers speak Urdu or English?
Yes. Our drivers speak Arabic, Urdu and English. If you need a particular language, mention it when you book and we will assign a suitable driver.
How far in advance should I book?
A day ahead is enough for most of the year. During Ramadan and Hajj we recommend booking three to four days in advance, particularly for the larger HiAce, Coaster and bus.
